Life Story / Obituary

Hermina Johnson, 82, of Holland Michigan, passed away peacefully at home in her favorite spot watching the birds. Born September 6, 1935 to John Herman and Hattie Ortman she attended Holland High School before working at Donelly Corp while raising five children. She lived through more pain than most, yet always found room in her heart to help others even when she could barely get by herself. She was most known for her generosity and sense of humor. She is a great loss of light in this world but was carried on hummingbirds wings to be reunited with her family in heaven.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Carolyn Ortman, and Johanna(Case) Dekoster; husband Ronald Vander Yacht, daughters Lisa Johnson, Diane Meekhof, and Pam Vander Yacht, as well as her son Ronald Vander Yacht II.

She leaves behind her siblings Harriet(Remo) Reimersma, Gerald(Louise) Ortman, Albetha(Jim) Meidema, Sherman(Marge) Ortman, Beverly(Bill) Tamminga, and Harold(Jan) Ortman; daughter Michelle(Jeff) Mucha; grandchildren Mariah(Anthony) Svay, Katrina Mucha, Malcolm Mucha, and great granddaughters Amiyah and Aria Svay.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 8, at 2 pm at Rose Park Reformed Church, 14241 Rose Park Drive in Holland, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to Harbor Humane Society or to the family to help with expenses. Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Home – Downtown Chapel.
