Helen Thompson Voogd, 92, of Holland passed away on July 16 at Resthaven Care Center.

Helen was born in Detroit. She attended Hope College, majoring in vocal music. On August 11, 1944 she married Rev. Dr. Henry “Cy” Voogd and enjoyed 62 years of marriage. She was employed for 18 years in the Hope College Admissions Office, retiring in 1983. She was a long-time active member of Third Reformed Church, singing in the choir, and active in many Hope College activities including Village Square. The Voogds received the Meritorious Service Award from Hope in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cy Voogd, in 2006. She is survived by her four children: Jan (Glenn) Kooiker of West Olive, Judy Voogd of Holland, Jane (Glenn) Lowe of Holland, and Jim (Laurie) Voogd of Wyoming, MI. She is also survived by her brother, Neil of Port Charlotte, FL, a niece and nephew, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Resthaven for the years of exceptional care throughout the continuum.

Services will be held at Third Reformed Church on Wednesday, July 20 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fritz Kruithof and Rev. Kama Jongerius officiating. A time of visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service. Memorial gifts may be made to the Henry and Helen Voogd Endowed Scholarship Fund at Hope College, Third Church Music Fund, or Resthaven.
