Helen L. (Souser) Van Doornik, age 91, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Helen was born on August 20, 1933, in Muskegon, Michigan and graduated from Muskegon Heights in 1951. She married Dale Timmer in 1952. She was a member of Beechwood Church, and taught Sunday School, Catechism, member of the choir and was a care elder. Helen and her husband Dale started the Young at Heart Group, was a member of Evergreen Commons where she volunteered at the Day Center, she loved it so much there. Helen was employed at the Holiday Inn on 24th Street for 14 years, many people said it should be called “Helen’s Inn”. In 2001 Helen married Lloyd Van Doornik.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Dale Timmer in 1985, her second husband Lloyd Van Doornik in 2009, a son Dave Timmer in 2020, a step son-in-law Mark Wierda.

She is survived by her children: Dan (Karen) Timmer, and Denise (Greg) Waldron; daughter-in-law: Barb Timmer; sister, Jayne Britzman; grandchildren: Jennifer (Jim) Kubinski, Andrew (Jamie) Timmer and their son Jacob, Jamie Timmer, Mandy Timmer, Kristin Timmer and Victor Cruz and their son Oliver, and stepchildren: Ernie (Debra) Van Doornik, and Laura Wierda; step-grandchildren, Leslie (Zac) Warner, Alexis (Tyler) Vanden Heuvel, Grant Van Doornik, Bethany (Justin) Burya, Rebekah (Jarod) Mitrea; Seven step great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Beechwood Church, 895 Ottawa Beach Road in Holland. Pastors Marlin Vis and Aaron Westhouse will be officiating. Everyone is invited to a graveside service following lunch at the church.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 10:45 am prior to the service at the church. Donations may be made to Hospice of Holland or Beechwood Church.

Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Homes – Northwood Chapel.
