Hazel Huisman

Hazel Huisman, age 88, of Jenison, formerly of Holland, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Hazel was born in Lakeview, MI and graduated from Lakeview High School. Shortly after graduation she trained to become a nurse’s aide and worked at Mary Free Bed. Hazel and her husband, Donald, co-owned Dykstra Drug Store until 1979. She was a member of Grace Community Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald (May 14, 2010) to whom she was married for 67 years. She is survived by her children, Gracia and Bradley Class of Wyoming and Thomas and Bonnie Huisman of Zeeland; grandchildren, Lara Class, James and Tricia Class, John Class, Jeffrey and Amanda Huisman, Lisa and Jed Koops, and Andrew and Natalie Huisman; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Elmer DeMott of Six Lakes and Richard Sherman of Greenville; in-laws, Bertha Huisman of Grand Rapids, Gertrude Huisman of Grand Rapids, and John De Vries of Muskegon; several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Funeral services will be 1pm Saturday at the Grace Community Church, 945 136th Ave., with the Rev. Aaron Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday at the Dykstra Life Story Funeral Homes-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook St Suite 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
