Gordon Dean Ferris, 57 of Holland, Michigan left this earth to join his Lord in heaven on May 10, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. He was born to Joseph Ferris and Margaret (McDonald) Ferris on August 23, 1956 in Ludington, Michigan. He retired from Herman Miller, Inc. in March of 2014 after nearly 25 years of service to a company he respected and loved very much. His greatest love in life was doing for his family, his friends and most recently all of the nurses in the hospitals he visited. Cooking and fishing were his passion and therapy. His cookie baking will be missed by all.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ruthann, and his much loved son, Sam, who brought meaning to his life by his birth in 1995. He is also survived by his mother and step-father, Margaret and John Virgo, of South Haven; brother, Randy, and family Sharon, Tom and Jerry of Jenison; brother, Robert, and family Lena, Anthony and Andrew of Florida; sister, Robin, and family, Jim, Cory and Megan of California; and his sister, Joy, and family, Ron, Hannah and Sarah of South Haven. He is also survived by 5 step-siblings: Jeff, Todd and Tyler Virgo, of Ludington; Vicki and Gary Hilbert of Pentwater; and Valli and Jack Caperton of Fennville. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, but especially his Aunt Joy. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph. A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at a later date.
