George Steggerda

Beloved Husband • Father • Grandfather • Great-Grandfather

-A Life Well Lived-

At the age of 87, George peacefully completed his journey on this earth, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, kindness, faith, and quiet strength. Though his passing brings deep sadness, his family takes comfort in knowing that his life was rich with purpose, joy, and devotion—to his loved ones, to his church, and to Jesus.

George graduated from Holland High School with the class of 1957. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in English and social work from Western Michigan University. A devoted fan, George passionately supported the Michigan Wolverines.

George lived with a generous heart and an unwavering sense of loyalty. His life was anchored by love—most especially the love he shared with his devoted wife, Christine (and their cat, Peali). Their many years together were a testament to partnership, patience, and genuine affection. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, stories, and a warmth that welcomed everyone who entered.

His faith guided him throughout his life. George found strength, peace, and purpose in his relationship with Jesus Christ, and his love for his church community was evident in the way he lived—with compassion, humility, and gratitude. Whether in quiet prayer, Sunday services, or acts of service, he embodied the values he cherished. His faith was more than something he practiced; it shone through his kindness and gentle presence.

His greatest joy came from his children and grandchildren; to them, he was not just a father or grandfather but a source of wonder, wisdom, and warmth. He told unforgettable stories—some true, others enhanced with a touch of magic—and he was always ready to cheer them on, whether at school events, sporting contests, or quiet family gatherings. He loved them deeply and was very, very, very proud of every one of them.

George had a gentle spirit and an extraordinary ability to make others feel at ease. He listened more than he spoke, smiled more than he frowned, and found joy in life’s simplest gifts. His steady, comforting presence became an anchor for his family.

Though he is no longer with us, the love he poured into his family—and the faith that guided his life—will echo for generations. His stories, his laughter, his devotion to God, and his quiet wisdom will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. And in every family gathering and every small act of kindness, his spirit will live on.

He is survived by all who will hold his memory close and honor the beautiful life he lived. May his gentle soul rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved—and that his love and faith remain forever.

-A Legacy of Service-

George was an active and dedicated member of the Holland Church of Christ. His faith guided his life and shaped his generous spirit. Throughout his career, he committed himself to service and to helping others, ultimately retiring as Juvenile Court Director of the Ottawa County Juvenile Court. He was respected not only for his leadership but also for the compassion and fairness he brought to his work every day.

His community involvement was extensive and heartfelt. George was a proud member of the Holland Jaycees—earning Man of the Year honors—and served as past president of the Holland Community Theatre, the Circus Fans Club of Michigan, and the Tri-City Mariners charitable football team. His generosity and dedication touched countless lives.
