George Combs

George Eugene Combs, age 96, of Holland, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at his home. He was born on July 23, 1914 in McCords, Michigan, the son of George Riley Combs of Ohio, and Anna VandenBosh of Zeeland, Michigan.

George was a loving father who cared for his family. For many years, he was an Industrial Engineer with Gardner Denver corporation in Grand Haven, and later worked for Manpower in Muskegon. In his younger days, he called square dances for various organizations. George was an extremely creative individual. He was constantly building things. He built his first home on one of the lots of the old Getz Farm in Holland. In his lifetime, he also built and restored several vintage cars and two sailboats.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lois Toles, of Saranac, Michigan, and is survived by his 4 children, Michael A Combs and wife Cathy VanderSlice, of Virginia Beach, VA, Pamela J Schuyler and husband Paul D Schuyler of Richland, MI, Kathleen S Berry and husband, Ralph Berry of Carlsbad, CA, Roxanne E Marcellino and husband Paul, of Worcester, NY, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Harvey Combs and his wife Gertrude of Byron Center, MI.

Cremation will take place and no visitation or services are planned.
