Evelyn Doris Bouma

Evelyn D. Bouma, 90, of Holland, entered into glory on August 28, 2017. She was born on her grandfather's homestead in Kansas on August 21, 1927, to Fanny and Martin Buikstra. She moved to Dispatch, Kansas, where Martin operated a country store. Evelyn graduated from Downs High School and received her teaching degree from Calvin College in 1947. Mrs. Bouma was the first teacher at Dispatch Christian School.

She met Harold, her husband of 59 years at Calvin College. They were married on June 29, 1948, by Rev. R.R. DeRidder. They were members of Fuller Ave. CRC. Evelyn returned to Calvin to receive her four year degree. She taught at Baxter Elementary and worked for Sears' for 30 years. She loved making Sunday dinner and banana splits. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting and her family visits to Kansas.

In 1995, Evelyn moved to Holland and joined Beechwood Reformed Church, attending Bible Study Fellowship and Young at heart. She was a loving soul who loved the Lord, always with a smile and always spreading joy.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Sue) Bouma, John Bouma, Gail (Ron) Slagh, Roger (Char) Bouma; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 2008.

Visitation is 9:30-10:45a.m. Friday September 1, at Beechwood Reformed Church, 895 Ottawa Beach Rd, Holland. A funeral service will follow at 11:00a.m. at Beechwood Church.
