Ethel Zwemer

Ethel Zwemer, age 105, of Holland, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Resthaven Care Center.

Ethel was born in 1918 to Gerrit and Mary Oonk. She grew up on their farm in Overisel, attended Hope High School, and graduated from Holland High School, where she met her future husband, Lawrence Zwemer. She cared for their family and was very active at the First Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, held leadership positions in the women's organizations, and served as an elder. Before her marriage she worked as a hairstylist, and later in life she was employed by DeWaard Interiors.

She is survived by daughters Ruth (Ken) Rabbers, Marilyn Tate, Nancy Nyland, and Laurie (Mark) Baron; nine grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren. Her family and her faith were her deepest loves through all of her long life.

A private family graveside will take place. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Resthaven Care Center or Hospice of Holland.
