Esther was born on September 8, 1922, to Cornelius and Nellie Heyboer in Grand Rapids, MI. She was the youngest of five children. Esther became a Christian when she was 11 years old under the ministry of Dr. M.R. DeHaan, who was the pastor of Calvary
Undenominational Church in Grand Rapids, MI.
On September 30, 1941, Esther married Irvele Monroe Harrington at Wealthy Street Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, MI.
