Erwin S. Gutsell Jr.

Erwin S. Gutsell, Jr, age 97 of Holland, MI passed away in his sleep on 1-10-2022.

Erwin was born in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin to Erwin and Geneva (Smith) Gutsell on 9-4-1924. He attended University of Wisconsin following his time in the Navy during WW11. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, and worked for all his career as a chemist. Erwin married Elizabeth (Betty) Donaldson in 1949, and they remained married until her death in 2011. He was an enthusiastic cycler for almost all of his life, and continued to cycle into his early 90’s. His other favorite joys in life were his cabin and Smith cousins in Wisconsin, and classical music (in particular church organ music). He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holland since 2001.

Erwin is survived by his son Jeff (Peg) Gutsell, and daughter Leslie Wills (Jeff Smith). He is predeceased by his wife Betty, and granddaughter Whitney Elizabeth Wills.

No service is planned at this time due to the difficulty with public gathering. Future plans will be announced.
