Ernest Paul Scheuerman, Jr. (Ernie), 96, of Holland died peacefully on January 10, 2024.

Ernie was born in Toledo, Ohio to Ernest Sr. and Ellen (Peterson) Scheuerman. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Adrian, Michigan in 1945 and enlisted in the US Navy. He was assigned to the Personnel Department of the Training and Distribution Center at Camp Shoemaker, San Diego, California. This would lead to a lifelong career in Personnel and Human Resources work. In 1950, he married Helen King at the St. Joseph’s Shrine in Irish Hills, Michigan. In 1978 he moved to Holland to take a position with Ex-Cell-O Corporation, which would later become Textron Corporation, until his retirement in 1993. Ernie and Helen stepped into a busy retirement life that included wintering in Florida, golfing between Florida and northern Michigan, cruising Lake Michigan as avid boaters and the hunting and fishing that Ernie had done all his life. Ernie was a charter member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Holland, an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus, a Lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association and a member of Bayshore Yacht Club.

Ernie is survived by daughters Barbara (Steve) Naber and Karen (Jim) Gardner of Holland, grandson Jeff (Peggy) Naber, granddaughter Kelli (Nathan) Linneman, great-grandchildren Nicholas and Olivia Naber and Nolan and Payton Linneman. Ernie was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents and his brothers Roger and Keith.

Cremation has taken place.

A funeral mass celebrating Ernie’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20 at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 480 152nd Avenue, Holland.

Friends may call on the family on Friday, January 19 from 5-8 pm at Dykstra Funeral Homes, Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue, Holland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation, in honor of Olivia Naber, to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, 4500 Cooper Rd., Suite 204, Cincinnati, OH 45242
