Eloise Lorena Schmidt age 88 of Holland died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Holland Community Hospital.

Born in Ravenna, MI., she moved to the Holland area in 1950. Eloise was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church where she was actively involved in many groups including the Quilters. She was a member as well of the Holland Garden Club, The Michigan Veterinarian Association and the Michigan State University President’s Club.

Eloise truly enjoyed raising her family. She was an excellent cook, known for her pies and cinamon rolls, proficient at needlepoint and especially enjoyed gardening and working around the house.

Eloise was also very supportive of the family business involving herself in many roles.

She and her husband Lawrence enjoyed traveling, which included Arizona and many other states, parts of Europe, Greece, and Russia.

Eloise will be lovingly remembered for her generous spirit, her independence, and her unconditional love for her family. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Ann in 1948, her husband Lawrence in 2004 and son John in 2011.

She is survived by her children, Richard and Jean Schmidt of Fennville, William Schmidt of Holland and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Schmidt also of Holland, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sister, Doris (Russell) Wyma of Portage, MI. and brothers and sisters in law, Pokey (Roger) De Graaf of Holland and Maurice Schmidt of Bellaire, MI. as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10 St. with Rev. Lynn Pier Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Coopersville Cemetery, Coopersville, MI.

Friends may call on the family Tuesday 6-8 at the Mulder Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 188 West 32nd.St.
