Dwayne E. Oonk, 81, of Holland, Michigan, passed away on May 15th in Zeeland, Michigan.

Dwayne was born in Holland, Michigan to Geraldine and Edmund Oonk on May 12th, 1944. He went on to study at Davenport Institute for a year before pursuing his true passion, his bride, Sharon. He worked as a carpenter for Oonk Builders for five years prior to switching careers and driving a semi truck for Brooks Beverage where he remained a loyal employee for 35 years. He enjoyed playing golf, softball, bowling, tennis and played football in high school. He also enjoyed watching his children play sports over the years, and once they had children of their own he was a diligent fan for their sporting events as well. He was an impressive carpenter and also loved bringing old vehicles back to life including his 1948 Chevy, 1972 Corvette, and his 1940’s Co-Op Tractor. He was a volunteer sheriff in Palm County when he and Sharon were in Florida and he was a deacon at Christ Memorial Church in Holland, Michigan.

Dwayne is survived by wife, Sharon Oonk of Holland, MI; his daughters, Betsy (Jim) Schutzenhofer and Sally (Troy) Becktel; his brother, Scott Oonk; his sister-in-law, Dawn Oonk, brother-in law Jerry (Loie) Becksford, brother-in-law, Dale (Barb) Becksford, sister-in-law, Gloria Becksford, and brother-in-law, Lee (Sue) Becksford; his grandchildren, Whitney (Jordan) Brown, Alyssa (Zach) Marsh, Emily (Alex) Bolthouse, Jennica Schaffer, and Joshua (Raquel) Schutzenhofer; his step grandchildren, Mitchell Becktel, Dakota Becktel, and Lexi Anzaldua; his great grandchildren, Sydney, Connor, Hailey, Bo, and Luke Brown; two step-great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Edmund; his mother, Geraldine; his brother, Ross; and his sister-in-law, Kate.

Visitation will be held at Christ Memorial Church on May 20th at 10am with funeral service following at 11am with Reverend Tim Brown officiating. Lunch will follow the service. A private burial will follow at Graafschap Cemetery, for immediate family only. Dykstra Funeral Home Mulder Chapel will be handling the funeral home arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Holland, 270 Hoover Blvd, Holland, MI 49423. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Heritage Rehab Center. Dwayne will forever be remembered as a humorous and loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Until we meet again Dwayne, we will “see you later alligator,” and “after a while crocodile.”
