Douglas A. Richards Jr., age 55, of Zeeland died Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Spectrum Health Butterworth.

Doug was a member of Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church. He was an avid University of Michigan sports fan but also closely followed the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings. His family had a tradition of camping and boating every year at the Lake Leelanau RV Park, a tradition held for 45 years. He also enjoyed going up to Ludington, MI. Doug made sure prior to leaving on camping and boating trips that the 1994 boat and the camper were immaculately clean. And his Ford F250 was his baby always looking brand new just like the boat and trailer. Doug could fix anything and was always making something better. He loved his dog Nala who was always by his side whether going on rides in the truck or helping him around the house.

He was preceded in death by his father Douglas Richards Sr. in March, 2020

He is survived by his loving wife Melissa and children: Dylan Richards of Houghton, MI and Haley Richards of Ann Arbor, MI; mother: Nancy (DeBiasi) Richards; sisters: Kris (Rob) Greiffendorf and Kim (Mike) Griffith; brother: Darrel (Heather) Richards; sister-in-law: Kristie (Eric) Sturgis; brother-in-law: Bruce Simons; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial mass will be 11:00 am, Friday, September 17, 2021 at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church, 480 152nd Ave. in Holland. Father Norm Droski will be officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Friday, September 10, 2021 at Dykstra Funeral Homes-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave. in Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
