Doris "Dorie" Van Eck

Doris “Dorie” Van Eck, age 96, of Holland passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at The Inn at Freedom Village.

Doris was born on March 14, 1927, to Harry and Mildred (Lemkuil) Wieskamp and graduated from Holland High School before going off to college.

Dorie was a dedicated register nurse in Obstetrics for many years at Holland Community Hospital helping deliver hundreds of babies. She also volunteered her time at the hospital for several years.

She was very active in the churches she attended and truly enjoyed singing in the choir. Dorie was the Women’s League president at Hope College and a Tulip Time festival volunteer. She supported her husband in the horticultural publishing business he co-owned and enjoyed traveling and cooking.

Most of all she loved being a mother to her two boys.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale Van Eck in 2012 and an infant sister Evelyn Mae.

She is survived by her sons: Tom (Jeri) Van Eck of Trenton, MI and Bob (Sally) Van Eck of Grandville, MI; grandchildren: Emily (Colston) Copeland of Brownstown, MI, Kelli (Dallas) Viva of Irvine, CA, Meghan (Peter) Cappon of Grandville, MI, Calvin (Katie) Van Eck of Grand Rapids, MI, Madelyn (Michael) Cox of Grandville, MI, and Anderson Van Eck of Grand Rapids, MI.

A funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Friday, August 25, 2023, at Dykstra Funeral Homes – Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street in Holland. Rev. Colston Copeland will be officiating. Burial will be in Graafschap cemetery.

A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Samaritan’s Purse or Gentiva Hospice.
