Life Story / Obituary

Delwyn “Del” Van Dyke passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 with family members at his side. Del will be remembered as a man of faith, a kind, gentle person and a strong supporter of his children, his grandchildren and their friends.

Del grew up in Holland and graduated from Holland Christian High School in 1960. He attended Tri State College (Trine University) in Angola, Indiana and earned an associate’s degree from Davenport University. He was a member of Third Reformed Church where, for 35 years, he served as recording treasurer and sang in the church choir.

The early years of Del’s adult life were spent working in various capacities, including president at the family business, Rooks Transfer Lines. After that business was sold in 1980, Del launched a new endeavor. He formed a payroll company, On-Line Enterprises, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2000. Following retirement, Del and Eleanor were privileged to serve from 2004 to 2014 as Conference Team Members with the Stephen Ministry Organization housed in St. Louis, MO. They traveled to various cities where Stephen Ministry leadership training courses were held and provided support to the faculty and trainees.

Del is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his children: Merri Van Dyke (Jim Bader) and David Van Dyke; grandchildren: Kailene, Karsten and Karina Bader Van Dyke; Krysta, Katya, and Kamryn Van Dyke; step grandson Quinton (Kylie) Bader; former daughter-in-law Svetlana Martinez and special “family” Yuichi, Michiyo and Hiroyuki Kida from Tokyo, Japan.

Del was preceded in death by his parents John Jr. and Ruth Van Dyke and his sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Charles Armstrong.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 22 at 2:00 pm at Third Reformed Church, 111 West 13th Street in Holland. Rev. Dr. Ryan Boes will be officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30 - 1:45pm. Masks are required. Memorial contributions may be given to the Third Reformed Church Music Ministry, The Third Reformed Church Mission Memorial Fund, or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Homes-Mulder Chapel.
