Life Story / Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Dawayon “Zeke” Zimmer, who entered into the presence of his Lord on July 17, 2025 at the age of 85. A man known for his strong work ethic, generous heart, and unwavering faith, he leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength.

Zeke was a skilled craftsman—working for many years in auto body repair, roofing, and general maintenance. He tackled even the most challenging fiberglass and roofing projects with patience and expertise. Always ready to lend a hand, he used his gifts to serve friends, neighbors, and family with humility and grace.

A faithful man, Zeke often spoke of how good God had been to him. He loved the Lord, his wife, and his family deeply, and lived a life marked by gratitude and service. He and Sharon were married for 63 years, and together they built a life filled with love, faith, and family.

He found joy in gardening, proudly growing abundant raspberries and potatoes. Though several of his children and grandchildren lived out of state, Zeke remained deeply connected to them. Whether through visits, calls, or quiet prayers, he kept family close to his heart and took pride in the lives they were building.

Zeke is survived by his wife Sharon; his children and their spouses—Dave and Katie Zimmer, Don Zimmer, and Nancy and Peter Lemay; his grandchildren—Caroline and Andrew Kuper, Megan and Scott Nieboer, Ryan Lemay and Izzy Beagen, Jared Lemay, and Mikey Lemay; and his three great-grandchildren.

He was one of six siblings and is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Von and Jim Boeve, Patricia Everse, Linda Shosten, Del and Jane Zimmer, and Dan and Sue Zimmer.

Zeke will be remembered for his kindness, quiet humor, and generous spirit by all who knew him.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Resthaven for the compassionate care provided in his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Resthaven.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at Dykstra Funeral Home - Northwood Chapel, followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. on August 4, 2025. A private graveside will take place at Lakeshore Cemetery.
