Danton “Dan” Avery , aka Grizz, age 67 of Holland, died Tuesday December 9, 2014.

Born and raised in Holland, Dan was a resident of the area his entire life. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. In the Army Dan was a member of the Battery A 4th Battalion 80th Artillery Fifth United States Army. This gun crew was a special group of friends that Dan always stayed in touch with, a true Band of Brothers. Dan retired from Hart and Cooley after 25 years. After his retirement Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, and just enjoying life. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Irene Avery, and brother Roy Avery.

Surviving are children, William Avery, and Mary Avery, of Denver Co., sister Judith Noecker, of Hastings, brother Michael U. and Janie Avery of Holland, six nieces and nephews, Uncle, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Mulder Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes Inc. 188 West 32nd Street with Full Military Rights. Friends can meet the family from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the chapel. Per Dan’s request memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 14 of Holland.
