Christy Lynn Holtgeerts, 63, of Holland, died Wednesday, March 11, 2020 in Englewood, Florida.

Chris was born in Holland and graduated from West Ottawa High School. She worked in the food service program at Hamilton Community Schools for 25 years and was also a coach in Hamilton’s swim program for many years. Chris was a lifelong member of Beechwood Church and a person of great faith. She felt her calling in life was to be a mother and grandmother and she excelled at both.

Chris is survived by her children, Lisa (Ryan) Eding of Hamilton, Jenny Laarman of Holland, Megan Laarman of Grand Rapids, and Mike (Jenni) Laarman of Holland; grandchildren Trent Lampen and Amos Eding of Hamilton, Penelope, Daphne, Isla, and Garrett Laarman of Holland; parents Dick and Beverly Vander Yacht of Holland; siblings Diana (Gary) Taylor of Holland, Dirik (Shawna) Vander Yacht of Hamilton, Jillayne (Ed) Reitsma of Grand Rapids, and Dean (Sheryl) Vander Yacht of Holland; in- laws Sheryl (Glenn) Mulder of Holland, Dave (Margarita) Holtgeerts of Holland, and Beth (Adam) Young of Livonia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Holtgeerts in 2004 and mother-in-law Lois Broekhuis in 2016.

She enjoyed wintering in Placida, Florida and spending time “up north” in the summer. Her favorite things were going to the beach and camping. She loved turtles, reading, sports, campfires, and the color green. Chris treasured her grandkids and was an incredible Nana. She was extremely strong; no matter what life threw at her she had a positive attitude and a smile on her face. If you met her, you had an instant friend. Chris had the gift of hospitality and her home (and cupboard) was always open. She was generous with her time and put others needs before her own.

A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, September 2nd 2021 from 5:30 - 7:00pm with a service to follow at Beechwood Church in Holland.

Memorial donations may be made to Beechwood Church. We encourage everyone to wear something green, with turtles, or beach themed to show your love for mom.
