Christopher John Smith has passed away at the age of 95.
Chris was the grandson of Christopher Columbus Smith, founder of Chris Craft - Worlds largest builder of pleasure boats. Chris was born on the 4th of July, 1927 while his father Barnard Smith competed and won a boat racing event on the St. Claire River, bringing home a trophy as well as his new born son. Chris grew up with the Chris Craft plant in Algonac as his playground. He spent two years as an apprentice at Chris Craft learning all aspects of the boat building industry.
His adult career was Engineer at the Holland branch of Chris Craft. In his retirement years he traveled all across the country to boat shows where he met and talked with the many fans of classic and antique boats.
Chris is proceeded in death by his wife Melva Simons Smith, son Larry Christopher Smith and daughter Debra Smith Dilday. He is survived by his family Chris Ann and Bob Braaf of Tennesse, Susan Hendrickson of Nevada, Joy Lynn Smith of Holland, MI, Mark Smith and Alice Van Cleave of Holland, MI. 5 Grandchilden and 2 Great Grandchilden, Nephews and Nieces.
