Life Story / Obituary
Charles “Chuck” D. Klies, age 74, of Fennville passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025.
Chuck was a member of the American Legion Post 6 in Holland and the Moose Lodge in South Haven.
Chuck really enjoyed cooking for family and friends, as a result they would often find food dropped off at their house. Also, on occasion he would cook for fund-raising events. He was experienced at preparing smoked fish, chicken, and beef jerky. One of his grandchildren said he was the most frugal, yet generous person they ever met. Another love of Chuck’s was getting outdoors, relaxing, and spending time fishing.
Chuck was Superintendent of the Kalamazoo Sewer and Water Authority and retired from the Michigan Rural Waters Association.
He was a sports fan, and in particular followed U of M, Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Tigers. Chuck graduated from West Ottawa High School in 1969.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Marian (Faber) Klies and brother Rod Klies.
He is survived by his children: Chad (Natalie) Kleis of Belmont, and Aris (Matt) Lee of Holland; grandchildren: Sydney (Trevor), Tatum, Jaiden, and Austin; sisters: Marlene (Al) Rader of Holland, and Sharon (Fran) Coughlin of Zeeland; an uncle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Dykstra Funeral Homes – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue in Holland. Inurnment will be in Lakewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:15 am prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
Following the services at Northwood Chapel, everyone is invited to a Celebration of Chuck's Life at the American Legion Post 6, 10820 Paw Paw Drive, Holland, MI 49424.
