Charlene Ann De Loof passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2024 after a long battle with dementia.

Charlene was born October 25, 1950 in Holland to Charles and Arlene (Poll) Knooihuizen. From her early childhood, Charlene wanted to be a teacher. She was able to realize her dream upon graduating from Holland High School and receiving a Bachelor of Arts and teaching certificate at Western Michigan University, and later a Master’s Degree from Michigan State University.

She enjoyed teaching young children and spent her career in elementary education at Hudsonville Public Schools, retiring after thirty years. In retirement she enjoyed substitute teaching in the Holland and Zeeland area.

She was predeceased by her father Charles Knooihuizen. Surviving and left to cherish her memory are her mother, Arlene Knooihuizen, her loving husband of 50 years, Steve De Loof, and their 2 children, Matthew De Loof, and Kathryn (Eric) Perez, grandchildren Donovan and Griffin Perez, siblings Louis (Lois) Knooihuizen, Dave (Ann) Knooihuizen, Laura (Tim) Feagan, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A private graveside service for the family will be held at Restlawn Cemetery. There will be a celebration of Charlene’s life on April 6, 2024 at Christ Memorial Church from 12-2PM (Please use entrance D).

The family would like to thank the staff at Quincy Place Senior Living and Hospice of Holland for their wonderful care in her final days.
