Cecil “Cec” Helmink, age 92, of Holland, Michigan, passed away on July 14, 2018.

Cec was born in Holland to Henry and Henrietta Helmink on November 16, 1925. He went on to earn a high school diploma from Holland High School. From there he pursued two years of vocational college in electronics. Cecil served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII. After serving, he married the love of his life, Shirley Anne Visser, and they married on June 11, 1948. He worked as an independent businessman in the fields of electronics, industrial supplies and real estate. A passion of his was playing golf and tennis. He participated in the Senior Olympics on the state and national levels, winning multiple medals in both sports. Cec was a lifelong member of the American Legion and Central Park Reformed Church.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley, son Doug Helmink and wife Mary of Raleigh, NC, daughter Diane (Helmink) Wertz and husband Jim of Belmont, MI, Stephanie Helmink, wife of his son, Jim Helmink, who preceded him in death of Conroe, TX. He has nine grandchildren Andrew (Jamie) Wertz, Alison (Jon Mark) Baucom, Erinn (Joseph) Schmitt, Jenna (Mike) Schaefer, Maegan (Dan) Johnson, Mitchell Helmink, Max Helmink, Holden Helmink, Chloe Helmink and 5 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at the Central Park Reformed Church, 614 Myrtle Avenue in Holland on July 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Kevin Kleinheksel officiating. Burial will be at Graafschap Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7pm, Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel 188 W 32nd Street in Holland.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Central Park Reformed Church, 614 Myrtle Avenue, Holland.
