Beloved wife and mother, loving grandmother and friend, Carolyn Jane (Kasten) Semon of Allegan peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. She was 92.

Carol was born on February 12, 1929 in Chicago, IL to Fred and Marian Kasten. When very young, her family moved to the Allegan/Hopkins area where she was raised, graduating from Allegan High School in 1947.

After a short missionary adventure in New Orleans, LA, she married her beloved husband, Paul V. Semon on April 8, 1950. Together they made their home in Holland, MI where they raised their sons, Mark and Brett. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Carol was known for her strong faith, hospitality, volunteering and endless energy. While raising her sons, she enjoyed working for The City of Holland at the Herrick Public Library, from where she retired in 1984.

Carol loved people--she was generous with her time and resources in helping others. One of her greatest joys in life was being a Grandmother. Her devotion to her grandchildren was second to none--and they all loved their visits with Grandma (and Grandpa). A day with Grandma Carol was always a memorable event!

Carol’s adventurous spirit found her match with Paul. They enjoyed traveling which included yearly visits to Kansas to be with family, road trips to Arizona and Alaska, and some plane travel abroad. She and Paul shared a full life of love and family until his death on September 20, 2000.

In 2002, she moved to Richland, MI to live closer to family. While there she enjoyed making new friends and became endeared to many, again through her generous spirit and hospitality.. Her last move brought her full circle back to Allegan in 2010, where she once more easily made new friends and rekindled many old friendships as well. She spent the better part of the last 20+ years in volunteer work she loved--sharing the Bible’s hope with others. She was still actively doing this in her 90s until the pandemic and her health stopped her.

She is survived by her sons; Mark (Lali) Semon, Manhattan, KS; Brett (Heather) Semon, Allegan, MI. Grandchildren; Jamelah (Nic) Kauffman, Wichita, KS; Evan (Erin) Semon, Denver, CO and Chelsea (Javier) Leon, Grand Rapids, MI. She had two great-grandchildren, MaKenna Kauffman and Edward Mark Semon. Also surviving are her siblings, Gene (Susan) Kasten; Dean (Norine) Kasten; Maggie (Jim) Dykstra; Sharon (Jan) Snider; and sister-in-law, Jackie Kasten; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-daughter (Cheryl), and her brother (William Kasten).

All who knew Carol admired her for her selflessness and incredible energy. She will be dearly missed. Those who loved her can smile looking back on memories of her signature “ham loaf” family (and friends) dinners and her many gifted handmade baby blankets. We look positively to the future when we will be with her again as promised in John 5:28, 29.

A memorial service will be held via Zoom on June 12, 2021 at 2:00PM EST.
