Life Story / Obituary

Print

Carlyle Serr, age 98 of Holland, passed away November 24, 2016.

Born in Owasso Mi. and a graduate of Corona High School, class of 1937.

Married Aletha and moved to Marshall in 1938 and began his life long career as an entrepreneur, in manufacturing and design. Moved his business to Holland in 1963 and began manufacturing electrical wire harness assemblies for the automotive and appliance industry under his new company, High Q Electric Manufacturing, Inc. Over the years added additional manufacturing locations throughout Michigan and in 1993 ventured into specialized office and commercial lighting with his son Michael and created High Q Lighting, Inc., where he worked for the remainder of his years in lighting design and manufacturing.

He was most proud of his family and grandchildren, and his work. He expressed his creativity through wood-working with personal gifts of furniture to his family and church. During Tulip Time he could be found working with his children cooking outside at Izzys Deli. He was a proud member of St. Francis deSales and loved his faith. His family is most grateful to Resthaven and The Boersma Cottage family for the wonderful care and support they provided to him throughout the last year of his life and the many new friendships he formed there.

He was preceded in death in 1977 by his wife and mother of his four children, Aletha Faye Serr, as well as two brothers, two sisters, and step daughter Elizabeth Cook.

Carlyle is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joan; children, Robert Serr; Michael Serr and Arlene; Rebecca Israels and Jeffrey; Julia Serr TerHaar; sister, Lorraine Braid; step-sons, Robert Cook; Greg Cook and Betsy; grandchildren, Tammy Kerr, Nikki Hanson, Scott Serr, Christina Serr, Brent Wiersema, Aletha Israels, Aaron Israels, Claire Israels, Alexandria TerHaar, Danielle Panepento, Tony TerHaar, Sarah Cook, Nate Cook, and Joe Perkins along with 19 great-grandchildren.
