Burton Edward Smith, age 95, of West Olive died Friday, March 26, 2021 at his home.

Burt was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II. He retired after 30 plus years as a heavy equipment operator. Burt enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He attended Harlem Reformed Church. Burt was known as “Pa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren who he loved spending time with. And when they would say good bye, Pa would always give them a “high five”.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Smith, grandchildren, Kyle Vander Heide, Brandon Smith and Madison Smith, brother, Leonard Smith and sister, Leona Porter

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou and children: Nancee and Gary Vander Heide of Hudsonville, Sally and Dave Bareman of West Olive and Brian and Melissa Smith of West Olive; grandchildren: Stephanie and Rob Bergman, Alyssa and John Blom, Brett Vander Heide, Torry and Rudy Alfaro, Jaycob Bareman and Leah Cano, Megan and Michael Kirkpatrick, Maddie Smith and Derek Haveman; great grandchildren: Parker, Claire, Micah, Gideon, Seraiah, Josiah, Jena, Armani, Keagan, Savanah, Jaxson, Kenzie and Keith

Daughter-in-law: Marianne Smith; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private family graveside service with military honors will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. John Nyitray will be presiding.

A visitation will be from 2-4 pm, Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Dykstra Funeral Homes-Downtown Chapel, 29 East 9th Street in Holland.
