Buck Herweyer, age 79, of Holland passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023 at his home.

Buck graduated from Saugatuck High School and continued his education with 5 years of Trade School.

Buck met the love of his life Sue Caswell at a family gathering and on November 5, 1983 they were married at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Holland.

He retired from the UA Local 174 Plumbers & Pipefitters as a skilled welder after 57 years of service, spending most of his time at the powerplants.

After retirement Buck and Sue enjoyed traveling and road trips. They visited Israel, Greece, Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, and the western U.S.

He was a member of Central Wesleyan Church and an important time in his life was a mission trip to Haiti to help in the children’s ministry.

Buck always enjoyed music, especially the oldies and Christian music, with his favorite singers being Roger Miller, Johnny Cash and the Statler Brothers. If he were to watch TV it was usually Gunsmoke, any western show or the history channel.

On Saturday mornings one could find Buck making waffles and he often would grill chicken which he loved to do. But steak, potatoes and corn chowder soup were also favorites. If he went out to eat it was usually Ida Red’s in Saugatuck or Annie’s Kozy Kitchen.

For over 50 years an absolute best place for Buck and Sue to relax and enjoy life was their cabin in Baldwin, MI. Buck enjoyed hunting, fishing, two tracking, and playing cards.

Buck was honest, an excellent handyman, had a good nature and was an avid outdoorsman.

So dear to Buck was his wife Sue, his daughter’s and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and MaryJane Herweyer and his brothers Jim and Marvin Herweyer.

He is survived by his wife Sue and daughters: Aimee and Dan Zoulek of Delton, MI and Heidi and Jerry Hoogeveen of Holland; grandchildren: Catie LePoire and Zane, Wyatt and Raven Zoulek; brothers: Ken (Arlene) Herweyer of Holland, Jerry (Joan) Herweyer of Zeeland, and Bob (Cynthia) Herweyer of Fennville; sisters: Karen (Jack) Antles of Montana, Luanne Barney of Turkey, Dona Herweyer of West Olive and Katy (Bryon) Gutschmidt of Allendale; brother-in-laws: Mike (Jeri) Caswell of St. Louis, John (Debb) Caswell of Holland, Bill Caswell of Florida, Ken Caswell of Washington and Brent Caswell of Arizona; sister-in-law: Deb (Brad) Hagger of Pullman and Kim (Lloyd) Duncan of McBain, MI.

A funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Monday, March 6 at Central Wesleyan Church Main Sanctuary, 446 West 40th Street in Holland (Entrance A). Rev. Bob Terpstra will be officiating. Burial will be in Gibson cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm, Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Dykstra Funeral Homes-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street in Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
