Life Story / Obituary
Bruce Blakeman, age 78, of Holland, MI passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.
Bruce was born in Kalamazoo to the late S. Bernard and Wilma (Lambooy) Blakeman on November 27, 1941. He graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1959 having lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He graduated from Albion College in l963, and was a member of the undefeated 1961 football team and Sigma Nu fraternity. He went on to earn an MBA from WMU in 1970.
In 1966 he married Pam (Mrozek) Blakeman, who survives him. He is also survived by daughters Jennifer (Paul) Aalderink of Zeeland; Tracy (Tim) Densham of Middleville; grandchildren Natalie and Jack Aalderink and Grace and Catherine Densham; his brother Dr. Gordon (Sue) Blakeman of Denver, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis (Paul) Braganini.
Bruce worked as a manager of physical distribution for Georgia-Pacific/Epic Paper Company in Parchment, MI, and retired after 40 years. Bruce served as a logistics officer at the Michigan Air National Guard Base in Battle Creek, MI and attained the rank of Colonel. He also served as the Director of Resources at Michigan State Headquarters in Lansing. Bruce retired from the Air National Guard in 1996 after serving for 30 years.
Upon retirement in 2003 from Georgia Pacific, Pam and Bruce moved from Climax, MI to Holland. Bruce enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Bruce was happiest when he was supporting them with their sports, music, dancing, and art endeavors. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Bruce was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. A private graveside service will be officiated by Fr. Michael Cilibraise with internment at Lakewood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, or The Saint Benedict Forum at Hope College. Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Homes – Northwood Chapel.
