Bernice J. Ver Hage, age 85 of Holland, passed away on May 17, 2022.

Bernice was an unforgettable person who deeply loved her Lord, her family, and her friends. She was born in Byron Center, MI to Arthur and Coby Berens and was part of Unity Christian High School’s (Hudsonville) first graduating class. On June 17, 1956 she married Lloyd Ver Hage and in 1966 they moved to Holland with three children after starting Ver Hage of Holland Chrysler Plymouth in 1963.

Bernice settled into life in Holland as a homemaker and mother. She was also a faithful volunteer at Pillar Church, Herrick Library, The Bible League, and the American Cancer Society. After the children were grown, she and Lloyd loved spending their winters in Florida and Arizona where she also volunteered regularly.

Bernice was famous for baking excellent pies (her cherry pie was legendary). She loved looking for treasures at garage sales, participating in Bible Studies, working in women’s fashions, and being a grandmother. Her boldness and humor will long be remembered with laughter by those who knew her.

Bernice was preceded in death by her son Paul in 1995 and her husband Lloyd in 2016. She is survived by her children: Blaine (Lisa) Ver Hage, Norm (Lynn) Ver Hage, and Laurel (Ken) Beukelman, all of Holland, MI; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at the Dykstra Funeral Home Downtown Chapel May 24 from 6-8 pm and a funeral service will be held at Pillar Church May 25 at 1:00 PM followed by a time of fellowship with pie and ice cream.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Paul Ver Hage Memorial Scholarship Fund at Holland Christian Schools and the Pine Rest Foundation
