Life Story / Obituary

Barb Rogers (Peters) died Monday, December 23 in Holland, MI. She was 81, born December 18, 1943 to Joseph and Minnie (Leisek) Peters in Lansing, MI.

She is survived by two sons, Chad Gailey and Thad Gailey. As well as her grandchild, Emma Gailey and her husband Michael Prairie.

She was raised on a farm in Mason, MI where she developed a strong love for the outdoors and animals, including her horse that she would end up showing at 4H shows at the fairs in the summer. She grew up as one of 5 children. When she left home, her early career had her assembling cars for Oldsmobile, which only fueled her love of fast cars. She would then go on to get an associates degree from Lansing Community College (LCC) in 1994. She graduated with high honors and was a member of the Mu Tau Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa fraternity. During this time she also completed a handful of certification programs. This included a mixology course, where she ended up holding the record for most drinks made during the final for all of LCC.

After graduation she worked at various hotels throughout central Michigan, primarily in their culinary department. One of the biggest accomplishments from this time would be her building up the banquet program at the hotels where she also received Employee of the Quarter multiple times for her hard work and dedication. Later on in life she would attempt to retire three times before succeeding.

In her retirement she enjoyed spending most of her time window shopping her dream cars and spending time at the lake watching sailboats. In the summers she would spend as much time outside gardening as she could or canning up amazing creations from salsas to jams to pickles. In the winter she would read, complete puzzles, and bake cookies, passed down from her family. When she wasn't doing any of these things she would be in her chair watching her favorite teams play, Michigan State Football and Basketball. There is truly so much of her life not captured here, but she will be remembered most as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial visitation will be 3-5 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street. No services are scheduled.
