Barbara Greiner

Barbara Jean Greiner, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, in Hospice House of Holland.

Barbara was born on August 12, 1924 in Hart, Mich. to Walter and Mary Ella (Howard) Lathrop. She graduated from Hart High School and received her teaching certificate from Oceana County Normal School. She taught at the Shaw School and St. Simon’s School. She received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from Western Michigan University and taught at South Hamlin Elementary School in Ludington, Mich.

Barbara married Everett Greiner on September 8, 1943. During her many years in Ludington Barbara was a member of St. Simon’s Catholic Church. In 2003, Barbara and Everett moved to Holland and joined St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Everett Greiner of Holland; her children, Ron Greiner and wife Ellen (Pogue) of Ann Arbor; Don Greiner and wife Mary Beth (Caplon) of Big Rapids; Louise Greiner of Holland; Lary Greiner and wife Eileen (Berasi) of Hastings, NY; Anne Johnson and husband Steve of Midland; David Greiner and wife Vanessa (Discoe) of Traverse City; and Michelle Ellis and husband David of Holland.

She is also survived by siblings Evelyn VanAgtmael, Laverle Greiner, Marguerite Fitzsimmons, Edward Lathrop and wife Evelyn, and Maudie Burrington; 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11 am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 195 West 13th St., Holland. The family will meet with friends at the church at 10 am before the service.

Interment will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Weare, Mich.
