Barbara (Barb) Ann Bosman, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Holland on Sunday afternoon, January 2, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

She faced her three-month battle with pancreatic cancer with grit and graceful determination, while continuing to make cherished memories with her family and friends. Barb was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 21, 1936 to Doris and Carl Schryer and moved many years later to Holland, Michigan. Barb was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She retired after working for the City of Holland for 20 years as an administrative assistant in the City Clerk’s office. Nothing was more important to Barb than her family and friends. You could always count on her to be a listening ear. She was known best for her frequent acts of selflessness and being a constant source of comfort to those who were blessed to know her. After retirement, she lived out these traits through volunteering at Hospice of Holland, the Holland Hospital gift shop and was a Stephen Minister at her church. She and her beloved husband, Jim, enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their motor home, spending several winters in Arizona and Florida. A favorite pastime was playing a weekly game of cards with some of her closest friends. When it came to her grandchildren, it was she and Jim’s highest priority to attend their many sporting events, concerts, dance recitals and plays, no matter how far away they were. She would always say, “We wouldn’t miss it for the world!” She will be sadly missed by four daughters Dawn (Rick) Petzak, Terri (Fred) Derheimer, Toni (Ron) Kouw, Cindy (Ken) Casey, a son Jeff (Cindy) Bosman, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren (with the 18th due to arrive in June 2022), one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, William, in 1952, father in 1985, mother in 2005, and her husband of 37 years, Jim, in February of 2021.

Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th Street, Holland, on Monday, January 10 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and the funeral service on Tuesday, January 11 at 1:00 pm also at the church. Masks are mandatory. Reverend Brad Bartelmay presiding. Interment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, consider donating to Hospice of Holland or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Professional service is under the auspices of Dykstra Funeral Home.
