August J. Overway, age 85, of Holland, MI passed away at his home on December 31, 2020 after a short illness.

August was born to Leonard and Gertrude Overway on January 12, 1935. He graduated from Holland High School and attended Concordia College. After spending several years as owner of two retail stores in Holland he enjoyed much success in the local Holland-area real estate business. August spent his retirement years driving cars for Crown Motors and serving on the City of Holland Board of Review. He enjoyed sailing and traveling with his wife, Mary. He was a man of God and a long-time and active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served in many leadership positions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mitchell, brothers Gene and Stan, and sister Dorothy.

August is survived by his loving wife Mary; sons Bruce of Holland, Mark (Faye) of Largo, Fl, Kurt (Judy) of Montague, MI, Patrick of Wyoming, MI and daughter-in-law Leeann Overway of Holland; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia (Thomas) Hoewisch of Cedar Hill, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 17 at 11:00am at Zion Lutheran Church (77 32nd St, Holland). A live stream will be available.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holland Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of one's choice.
