The Lord came at noon on November 9, 2021, to take Albert John VanderZiel to his home in glory.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, a valued member at Trinity Reformed Church, and a life-long passionate teacher in the classroom and at Bible studies. Some of the things that Al loved to do included playing chess, riding bike, drinking coffee, travelling, wood-working, canoeing, camping, and other outdoor activities.

He was happily married to his first wife, Anne Marlene Huiner for 25 years.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 30 years, Anne (Koops); his children Margot (Hai) Bismuth, Justin (Magdalena) Vander Ziel, Christian (Jill) Vander Ziel, Melanie Vander Ziel, step-son Don Houseman; his grandchildren Luca and Ella Ziel De Cruz, Ezra, Elaine, and Jens Vander Ziel; his siblings Bea (John) VanMantgem, Tom (Judy) VanderZiel, in-laws Trudy VanderZiel, Peter (Tona) Huiner, Marjorie Huiner, Don Huiner, Jan (Tom) Venema. He was predeceased by his brother Bernard VanderZiel, sister Alice Visser, brother-in-law Harvey Huiner, and sister-in-law Eileen Huiner.

Always the teacher, Al’s final message was “I love Jesus. I trust His promises. He is coming to bring me home.”

Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday (November 13) at Trinity Reformed Church, 712 Apple Avenue. Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm tonight (Friday, November 12) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Escape Ministries.
