Al Buck, age 83, of Holland died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital.

Born in Farsund, Norway, at age 16 Al moved to the states to attend Irving Prep School in Tarrytown , N.Y.

In June of 1952, Al met his future wife Joan aboard a ship to Norway. In July of 1953, they were married in New Rochelle, NY.

That same year, he graduated from Utah State with a degree in Agriculture and Entomology.

Following his college years, he served in the army during the Korean Conflict then worked for Allied Chemical Company and moved to Michigan.

An avid sportsman and gifted musician, Al was known for encouraging local businesses to fly an American flag. He was proud to be an American and was thankful for the Freedom we have.

He also served as Post Adjutant in the American Legion Post 6 as well as carried the flag in the Color Guard and Drill Team.

A longtime member of Fellowship Reformed Church, Al helped support many youth groups in fund raising.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan and children; Robin Buck of Tecoma Park, Maryland, Jay Buck of Holland, Nancy (Mark) Newhouse of Grand Junction, CO., Paul (Dana) Buck of Woodbury, Conn., Elaine (Scott) Page of Holland, 6 grandchildren, brother; Ivar (Frieda) Buch of Austin, TX, and in-laws, Richard and Maryann Dietrichson of Richardson, TX, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services are 11:00AM Friday, Feb. 28 at Fellowship Reformed Church, 300 N. 168th with Revs. Marijke Strong and Jim Baar officiating.

Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 27, 7-9PM and Friday, Feb 28, 10-11AM at the church.

Memorial gifts may be given to Fellowship Reformed Church Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are by the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 295 Douglas Ave. Holland.
