Life Story / Obituary
Leonard “Wayne” Sluis, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Appledorn Living Center under the care of Hospice
Born on January 9, 1938 in Rib Lake, Wisconsin. He was the son of Peter and Edith Sluis. The family moved to Michigan where they purchased a farm and grew gladiolas. Leonard was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoors man who loved to hunt with family and friends. Wayne enjoyed playing horseshoes and won many trophies during his winters in Tucson.
Leonard was preceeded in death by a son David and brothers, Kenneth, Gordon and Alvin.
Surviving are his wife Jeannette, children; Laurie and Roger Hokse of Holland, Douglas and Nancie Sluis of Holland; grandchildren, Lisa and Ken Akershoek, David and Amber Hokse, Lynn and Andrew Pouliot, Kamila Hokse and Ron Morley, Kyle and Sarah Sluis and Kerry Sluis; great grandchildren Tyler Witzel, Danny and Jesse Hokse, Kamren, Mason and Hayden Akershoek.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Central Wesleyan Church (Chapel), 446 West 40th Street in Holland, please use entrance G. Reverend Larry Johnson will be officiating. Burial will be in East Saugatuck cemetery.
Cremation has taken place. Special Thanks to Hospice of Holland for their loving and tender care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Holland.
