Life Story / Obituary
Veronica Honey, age 79, passed away on December 29, 2024.
She was born on February 18, 1945, in the Detroit area to the late Edward and Helen Ewald. Ronnie, as she was known to most, lived a life devoted to family, education, and making a difference in the lives of those around her. She was the first person in her family to get a college degree, graduating from the University of Detroit and later obtaining a master's Degree from Grand Valley State.
Ronnie was the beloved wife of Alan, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership. She was a proud and loving mother to her two sons, John and Michael. She was preceded in death by her cherished daughter, Carolyn, whose memory she carried close to her heart.
A lifelong educator, Ronnie was a proud and committed teacher at the Ottawa Area Center, where she spent 21 years caring for and teaching countless students. She always had a passion for learning and spreading kindness. Her impact on the community and the lives she touched will be remembered for years to come.
In her personal life, Ronnie was known for her faith, warmth, generosity, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family, friends, and the many lives she enriched.
Ronnie is survived by her husband Alan, children John (Diane) Honey and Mike (Laura) Honey, grandchildren Jack, Ryan, Anna, and Caroline Honey, sisters Elaine Bousamera, Patricia Kress, and Christine Guise, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ronnie's family would like to thank all those who took such good care of Ronnie over the last several years - Evergreen Day Center, Appledorn, Gentiva/Hospice, and all others who cared for her in her time of need.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 11, at 1:30 p.m., at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 480 152nd Ave, Holland, MI, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service.
A visitation will take place on Friday, January 10, from 5-8 p.m. at Dykstra Funeral Home—Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave, Holland, with a time for sharing memories at 7:00 p.m. and prayers to follow. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
Please share memories and/or leave condolences on Ronnie’s guestbook.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Evergreen Commons, a community where Ronnie and Alan have been active participants and found great joy.
