Susan Kraai

Susan Tripp Kraai, age 79, of Holland, MI passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 13, 2018. Born on January 3, 1939 daughter of William Luther and Dorothy Sayre Tripp, sister of William Sayre Tripp, all who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her granddaughter Sara Joy.

Devoted mom of six children and wife of 38 years, to Rick Kraai; her four children Mike Swaney, Kim (John) Franken, Shelly (Craig) Boeve, Kristin (Chris) Duryee, and her step-children Lisa McKay and Bryan (Megan) Kraai. She was a proud Grammy to Michael and Matthew Swaney; William (Keterly), Katie, Matthew and Joseph Franken; Sam, Scott and Mark Boeve; Lizzie (Justin) Bouma, Anna and Meredith VandeBunte; and Dilyn Duryee; Summer (Britt) Johnson; and Conner Kraai; along with great grandchildren Benjamin and Julian Johnson.

Sue was raised in Allegan, MI attended Allegan Public Schools, then Dana Hall Prep School, University of Kansas, and University of Michigan. She majored in music and education.

Sue had the privilege of singing with the Boston Symphony, as well as serving as homecoming queen of Notre Dame. After settling down in Allegan with her family, she founded the Allegan Community Preschool. Sue was extremely proud of her family legacy, as well as her family business, Perrigo Company. In her younger years she tested toothpaste flavors for the company, as well as serving on the Board of Directors in the 80’s.

Sue had many passions, most precious to her were family, helping children and gardening. She spent time serving her community, working at Jonkers Gardens and enjoying her favorite hobbies of knitting, sewing and bird watching. Sue’s greatest joy was gathering in her home with those she loved, along with her beloved pets.

Quick witted, Sue loved to tell stories, and humored all with a good joke or one of her favorite acronyms. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and many long-time friends.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of Holland caregivers. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 22, at First Reformed Church, 630 State Street, Holland, MI 49423. Rev. Dr. Daniel Gillett will be officiating. The family will also receive visitors Friday, September 21 from 6-8 PM at Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street. There will also be a time for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Sue's name to First Reformed Church Kids Hope, 630 State Street, Holland MI 49423.
