Life Story / Obituary
Shirlie Jean Rich passed away on September 30, 2016 in Altamonte Springs, FL.
She was born on October 29, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, IA. to James and Edna Campbell. The family including her brothers, Richard and Robert also resided in Little Rock, AR. and Topeka, KS. before moving to Chicago. Here, she would meet her husband and love of her life, Robert W. Rich.
They had 3 daughters, Nancy Smith, Linda Crawford and Denise Clifton residing in Chicago, New York and Detroit before settling in Mt. Prospect, IL in 1957. During her life, Shirlie was a volunteer at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts., IL as the hospital gift shop manager. Shirlie and Bob enjoyed their weekends and summers at Rich’s Roost on Silver Lake in Saugatuck, MI. As lifetime members of the Singapore Yacht Club they enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Michigan.
In 1975, Shirlie and Bob retired to St. Simons Island, GA., where both were avid golfers at the Sea Palms Country Club. Shirlie also successfully opened and managed Frederica Station Gift Shop. In 1985, they relocated to Clearwater, FL. After her husband’s death in 2000, Shirlie relocated to Longwood, FL to be near her daughters Nancy and Denise. She remained active with the Orlando Garden Club as well as hosting many neighborhood events and holiday parties.
Shirlie is survived by her three daughters, 4 grandchildren, one great granddaughter as well as many nieces and nephews.
