Sheryl “Sherie” Bernal, age 66 of Holland, peacefully passed away February 9, 2019 after a long illness.

Sherie was born in Zeeland, MI to Harvey and Hazel Oetman and graduated from Holland Christian High School in 1970. She went on to attend Pine Rest Nursing School, which led her to a 35-year career at Hallmark Nursing Home, formerly known as Birchwood.

Sherie really enjoyed work life, but it was her family, especially her grandchildren, that brought her the most joy. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her mother Hazel Oetman; father, Harvey Oetman, and step-mother, Mary Oetman.

Sherie is survived by her loving husband of 41years, David Bernal; sons, Antonio Bernal, Mike (Karina) Bernal, Nick Bernal; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Linda (Farouk) Karachy, Bev (Al) Russell; brother-in-law’s, Jesus (Rina) Ruibal, Joe (Ingrid) Bernal, Ricardo Bernal, Arturo Bernal; sister-in-law’s, Grisel (Louie) Pardo, Mayra Bernal Bush, Marleny Bernal Otero, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation for Sherie will be Tuesday, February 12 from 5-7pm at Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel, 188 W 32nd Street in Holland.

A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 13 at 11:00am at Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Spectrum Hospice.
