Scott Alden Piers, age 66, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018 in North Palm Beach, FL, after battling heart disease for many years.

He will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him as a multi-talented, personable, affirming individual who possessed a great smile, infectious laugh, and the ability to engage diverse groups of people in conversation wherever he went. Scott lived life to the fullest and he lived in the moment. With his quick wit, creativity, and irreverent sense of humor, Scott was hilarious and capable of finding humor in most situations. He graduated from Zeeland High School and received his undergraduate degree in Art and Theater from the University of Michigan.

Scott holds the distinction of being the first student honored at Interlochen Summer Arts Camp to place in two divisions: art and drama. He began his career pursuits teaching art for Grand Rapids Public Schools, but quickly followed his passion for graphic design and the visual arts and moved to Chicago. Most recently, he worked as a digital artist in Las Vegas and Florida, and was an employee of The Landmark, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Piers and Leona Piers-Kempker of Zeeland, MI.

He is survived by his sister, Mary George (Dr. Daniel George), brother Dr. James Piers (Dee Dee), nieces Dr. Cameron George (Robert Melcher) and children Gavin, Anika and Keaton of Holland, MI, Morgan George (Matthew Woolsey) and children Casper and Agnes of London, England, and nephews Chip George (Tracy George) and children Milan and D.C. of East Grand Rapids, MI, Dr. Christian Piers (Rachael) and daughter Kaimana Rozalyn of Chapel Hill, NC, and Carter Gunther Piers of Honolulu, HI.

No visitation is scheduled. A memorial service was held in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and a private family memorial is planned. Memorial contributions may be given to Harbor Humane Society or the Piers Family Scholarship Fund, Hope College, PO Box 9000, Holland, MI 49422-9000. Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Home – Downtown Chapel. To sign an on-line registry or leave a memory please visit www.dykstrafuneralhome.com
