Life Story / Obituary
Ron H. Visser, 83, passed away on January 2, 2026, in Zeeland, Michigan.
He was born on August 25, 1942, in Haarlem, the Netherlands, to Henry Visser and Renee deBoer Visser. Ron was the youngest of five brothers, with the closest in age being ten years older. In 1953, at the age of 11, he immigrated to the United States with his parents and older brothers—Harry, Klaas, Jake, and John Visser—settling in West Michigan, where he would spend his life.
Ron graduated from Zeeland High School and began a long and steady career in retail management, spending many years with Sears Roebuck, where he was known for his reliability and consistent presence. Alongside his retail career, he worked as a part-time school bus driver for West Ottawa Public Schools. After retiring from Sears, Ron returned to bus driving full-time, transporting special-needs children—a role that held particular meaning for him and one he took great pride in.
Ron was a man who always had a hobby or interest drawing him in. In earlier years, he enjoyed golfing and coaching his children’s teams, whether softball or soccer. He was a faithful supporter of high school sporting events and, in later years, found joy in car auctions with friends and time spent snow birding in Florida. In his most recent years, his greatest dedication and companionship came through the loving care of his dog, Cooper.
Ron’s faith and daily devotion were a steady and grounding presence throughout his life. His commitment to church, prayer, and routine reflected a life shaped by discipline, service, and quiet perseverance.
Above all, Ron had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, guided by an easy warmth and a genuine curiosity about people and the world around him. Whether standing in line, sitting in the bleachers, or attending an auction, he had a way of making others feel seen.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Berg Visser; his parents, Henry and Renee Visser; and his brothers, Harry, Klaas, Jake, and John Visser.
Ron is survived by his son, Scott Visser of Fort Lupton, Colorado, and his daughter, Shelly Whitney of Denver, Colorado; his grandchildren, Sid Visser of Fort Lupton, Anna Whitney of Chicago, Illinois, Aidan Whitney, Kyle Jordan, and Owen Whitney, all of Denver, Colorado; his longtime partner, Marilyn Jones, whose care and support were especially meaningful to him in his final months; and most importantly, his beloved dog, Cooper. He is also survived by extended family and many friends who will remember him for his work ethic, steady presence, and unmistakable ability to connect with others.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Memorial Church on January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
