Roger M. Wheatley, born June 23, 1934, passed away peacefully on Monday December 5th, 2016, at Medilodge of Holland following a short stay where he received excellent care by a great staff during his struggle with Alzheimer's. Roger will be dearly missed by his beloved and devoted wife Gail (Shinabarger); sons, of his late wife Nancy, Scott (Lisa), Ryan, Erin, Mark (Sheila), Vivian, Adam, Sean (Heather), Emma, Reese, and Maddie, all of Illinois; His beloved Brother, Brian (Jo-Ann) of Oakville Ontario; stepchildren, Heidi (Justin), Sky, Justin George and Andrew Van Eden, all of Vancouver B.C.; a special friend, Allison Rahn (Holland High volunteer who spent many hours with Roger); father and mother in-law, Jack (Pat) Shinabarger; brother in-law, Steve (Kelli) Shinabarger; niece, Kaitie (Dan), Kiefer, Gavin, Haiylen, Lennyn; nephew, Kyle (Jenny) Shinabarger, Eli and Emmie.
Roger was born in Welland Ontario. He attended the University of Buffalo, Fine Arts Course in the late 50's. Eventually, he began working with major advertising companies in Toronto, and in Chicago as an Art Director. In his youth he enjoyed hockey, and football. After moving to Wheaton IL, then Holland, Roger spent his summers sailing Lake Michigan for over 40 years.
With respect to Roger's wishes there will be no funeral service. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Medilodge for their compassionate care and love of Roger, and to Hospice for keeping him comfortable.
