Richard M. Weerstra, born on August 26, 1933 in the Netherlands to Martin & Theressa Weerstra, passed into his heavenly home on March 8, 2021.

Rich immigrated to the United States in 1949. He met the love of his life, Lavina, and they were married for 67 years. Prior to his business career, Richard served in the United States National Guard. Following his discharge, he began a career as a representative for Harvest Insurance Company where he worked for many years. Although he loved his work, his greatest passion was serving the church. He was a long-time member of First Reformed Church, serving in multiple capacities from Sunday school teacher, consistory member, deacon, elder, Vice President of Consistory and Kids Hope Mentor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ann Jipping, Hans Weerstra, Sam Weerstra, Grace Weerstra; and great-granddaughter, Grace Olivia Tubergan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lavina; children, Bill (Valorie) Weerstra, Jill (Kevin) O’Connor, Laurie (Barry) Standiford, Dean (Susan) Weerstra; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Jean Hengst, Cecil (Judy) Weerstra, John (Barb) Weerstra, Ted (Donna) Weerstra, along with nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
