Life Story / Obituary
Richard “Dick” Albert Brammer found peace and joined the Lord Friday, March 11 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 82.
Dick was the eldest of 4 sons, born February 23, 1934 in Elgin, IL, to Raymond and Leona Brammer. He married Norma Jean Johnston on February 26, 1955 and together they had 5 children. Dick was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington, IL, a longtime member of the town council and a Boy Scout Leader.
Brammer began his professional career as a tool and die maker. He had a keen interest in plastic injection molding when it was first introduced and his work played a key role developing patented products for Ideal Industries in Sycamore. His interest in the burgeoning field of plastics lead him back to school. After earning his degree, he accepted a position at Ferris State College in Big Rapids, MI where he was an associate professor until his retirement. He was an active member in the Society of Plastics Engineers where he served as president of the mold making division. Dick retired in 1997 and he and Norma moved to Holland, MI where they were able to be close to family and enjoy his favorite pastime, fishing. After losing his beloved wife, Norma, in 1999 Dick was able to find a second love when he met Carol Novota. They were married January 15, 2000. Together they enjoyed traveling, spending time at their Michigan lake cottage and escaping the cold by wintering in Mesa, AZ.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond and Leona, his first wife; Norma, and brother; Roy. He is survived by his loving wife; Carol, brothers; Ray and Leonard, children; Rick (Lisa) Doug (Missy) Sandy (Bill) Bahr, Steve (Loyce) and Sue (Brad) Banker. Dick also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as Carol’s children; Cathy (Greg) Vulcan and Chris Nevius.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16th at 11:00am at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3151 120th Avenue, Holland, MI. Visitation will be on Friday, April 15th from 5:00 -7:00pm at Dykstra Life Story Funeral Home, Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street, Holland, MI.
Memorial gifts In Dick's name may be given to Hospice of Holland.
