Life Story / Obituary
Phyllis R. Rastall, age 94, of Douglas, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
Phyllis Ruth Merwin was born in Chicago February 12, 1926 to George Lester and Ruth Kathryn (Lumb) Merwin where she was married to Gail Butler and gave birth to her daughters Betty and Beverly. After her divorce she married Bert Rastall and the family moved to Saugatuck where daughters Rita and Lorene were born. Phyllis had a well developed sense of humor and fun that she passed along to her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and there wasn’t a craft or casino that she didn’t enjoy. Countless babies born at Holland Hospital in the 1980’s-2000’s went home wearing the hats that she lovingly knitted and donated.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents George & Ruth; husband, Bert Rastall; brother, Francis Merwin; sister, Betty Jane Baker and sons-in-law David Avery and Ronald Van Wieren. She is survived by daughters Betty Van Wieren, Beverly (Roger) Stedman, Rita Rastall and Lorene (Richard) Lechler; grandchildren, Collin Jarema, Ronald Van Wieren Jr., Lorene (Erik) Johnson, Rich and Aaron Lechler; great grandchildren, Ingrid, Sigrid & Agnes Johnson, Aubrie Jarema, Brittany (Ben) Taylor, Kayla Jarema and Braden Van Wieren; brother-in-law, Ralph Baker; sister-in-law, Lorene Dahlberg and brother & sister-in-law Edward & Norma Rastall; nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held with burial at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the American Legion Post #137 or the Saugatuck-Douglas District Library would be appreciated.
