Life Story / Obituary

Patsy Lou Postma, of Holland, Michigan, went to be with God on Sunday, November 2, 2025. While her passing was unexpected, her family is deeply grateful that she spent her final day actively doing what she loved, attending church and working outdoors.

Born on December 9, 1945, in Grand Haven, Michigan, Pat was the first child of Ruth and Claude VanCoevering. A lifelong musician and gifted flutist, she studied music at Calvin College and went on to earn a master’s degree in music performance from Ball State University.

On August 9, 1968, she married the man who made her laugh, Chuck Postma, and together they raised two sons, Kevin and Scott. Pat shared her passion for music and learning as an educator and later built a successful career as a real estate agent in Port Clinton, Ohio. She became known as a dedicated and knowledgeable expert, especially for clients looking to find their dream homes along the Lake Erie shore.

Pat’s life was defined by her love of nature and the water. Whether body surfing the waves with her boys in Grand Haven, fishing on Lake Erie, searching for beach glass, or biking along the Gulf Coast during winters in Florida, she always found joy near the water. She also devoted herself to perfecting her golf game and cherished every moment spent with her family.

A member of Fellowship Reformed Church in Holland, Pat shared her musical gifts by playing the flute during worship services. Her faith, creativity, and joyful energy touched all who knew her.

Pat is survived by her husband, Chuck Postma; her siblings, Jack (Jean) VanCoevering and Judy VanCoevering; her sons, Kevin (Kate Thomson) of Manistee, MI, and Scott (Heather) Postma of Holland, MI; and her five grandchildren, Tyler, Solana, Kebede, Megan, and Ceci Postma, as well as many beloved friends and extended relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Claude VanCoevering, her sister-in-law Evie DeGraff, and her nephew Corey Kuipers.

In Pat’s memory, her family invites you to play an instrument, complete a project around the house, or spend some time being active outdoors, celebrating life with the same energy and joy that she did.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a time of visitation and lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Fellowship Reformed Church, 2165 W. Lakewood Blvd., Holland. Rev. Ross Dieleman and Rev. Nate Schipper, presiding.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Holland Symphony Orchestra or the Hope College Orchestra. Hope College 168 E. 13th St., Holland, MI 49423.
