Nathan John Luna, age 34 of Holland, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 18, 2013 in Laketown Township.
Born and raised in Westphalia, MI., Nathan attended and graduated from Pewamo-Westphalia High School with his class in 1997. He also graduated from Saginaw Valley State University where he was a 4 year letter winner on the Cardinal football team. Nathan also earned a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University.
Starting his career as a teacher, coach and mentor at P-W schools, he continued on to Grand Ledge High School and Grandville Middle School. He also coached at West Ottawa High School in Holland. Nathan was secondary administrator for the past 3 years at South Haven High School, as well as an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Holland, MI where he and his family reside.
Nathan is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Kristen and children, Avery, 6 years and Gabriel, 2 years.
He is also survived by his parents, Roger and Linda Luna of Westphalia, parents-in-law, Jack and Paula Carlson of Holland, Grandma Betty Carlson of Sparta; brothers and sisters, Rachel and Dan Kowatch of Caledonia, Celena (Tony) Thelen of Pewamo, MI., brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Shannon Carlson of Aurora, Colorado, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 11:00AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 201 N. Westphalia St. in Westphalia, MI.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Westphalia.
Visitation will be Sunday, 7-9 at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Westphalia St. with a rosary at 8:00PM. A visitation will also be held Monday 2-4 and 7-9 with a rosary at 3:00PM and Scripture Wake Services at 8:00PM.
Local arrangements are by the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 295 Douglas Ave., Holland.
Memorial gifts and scholarship fund for Nathan’s children, Avery and Gabe, will be available at Flagstar Bank in Holland, as well as online via wepay.com.
