Mildred Vanden Berg, age 98, of Holland, died Thursday, March 24, 2016.

Born in Douglas, MI, she was a graduate of Saugatuck High School and later from Davenport Business College where she studied to be a secretary. In 1940, she married Howard Vanden Berg. She and her husband were residents of the area for the last 30 years. Mildred was a member of Trinity Reformed Church where she was involved with various functions. In her free time, Mildred loved to volunteer at places like Evergreen Commons and Holland Rescue Mission (Stepping Stones Daycare) where she was “Volunteer of the Year" in 2004. Her hobbies included gardening, needle work, baking, and she especially loved cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Vanden Berg in 2002.

Surviving are children: Robert J. Vanden Berg of Charleston, WV; Kathy and Mike Steere of Oriental, NC; Margaret and Kim Buckley of Holland; grandchildren, Ellie and Matt Hodges, Abby and Jake Steere-Williams, Samantha and Chris Copp, Benjamin Buckley, Leah and Austin Vondracek, and one great-grandson Langston Steere-Williams. Also surviving are a brother Gerald Bekken of Douglas, sister-in-law Una Voorhorst of Warsaw, IN, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at Trinity Reformed Church in Holland. Officiating will be the Rev. Deb Yurk. Visitation will be Sunday 5-7 pm at the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes Inc 295 Douglas Ave. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
